Tour around Carlow & Kilkenny this autumn, at your own pace.

As September falls upon us, and the temperatures remain wonderfully comfortable for “Staycationing” in Ireland this year, autumn brings with it shorter days and longer evenings. Avlon B&B Carlow love this time of year as we watch the colours change and many of our regular guests return to immerse themselves in a last break before winter kicks in. With this in mind the idea of touring Carlow/Kilkenny by foot or bicycle brings with it certain time constraints.

Worry not, the lovely folks at Carlow Tourism have put together some terrific ideas for exploring around and in the vicinity of Carlow/Kilkenny for all visiting tourists by car.

The most popular and interesting touring routes include:

75klm – Mount Leinster Touring Route: Winding its way through the beautiful countryside of South Carlow, highlights to look out for include the Blackstairs Mountains and Mount Leinster of course, whose highest peak is at 795 metres. For a detailed brochure click here

166klm – Gordon Bennett Route: While the well know Gordon Bennett route was raced by the world’s greatest daredevils at record breaking speeds in 1903, we suggest a more gentle pace will get you there safely in the end! This driving tour straddles the 3 counties of Kildare, Carlow and Kilkenny. As you drive this historic route you will journey across truly rich and elegant Irish countryside enjoying many of Ireland’s best loved visitor attractions along the way.

Carlow Trail of the Saints: This driving tour offers something very different yet special due to the fact of it being made up of 3 separate driving routes which between them cover the full of Co. Carlow and feature 51 ecclesiastical attractions. For more information visit here
