Not only are our doors finally open to welcome guests after a hiatus, but this year’s “Carlow Arts Festival” is taking place over 10 days from the 4th to the 13th June 2021. Although, the festival is like no other before it due to the challenges of the Pandemic, here at Avlon House B&B we could not be more proud of the incredible hybrid programme on offer this year! We are delighted to share some information for our guests who are due to stay with us in Carlow this month.
Carlow will be alive with culture with works featured by International, National and Local artists. Geographical represented include Latin America, Asia, Europe and of course Irish artists including Carlow itself. Below we will outline some of the “In person”, and “On Demand” events that you can attend, so that you can easily plan the best and safest way to enjoy the Carlow Arts Festival 2021. We have chosen a small selection of what’s on offer to whet your appetite!
“IN PERSON EVENTS”
From 4th June – The Corner of College Street and Dublin Street
An engaging and placemaking piece of original public art by renowned street artist Maser.
From 11th June – Woman in the Machine
A most ambitious project co-created with VISUAL in association with Brightening Air | Coiscéim Coiligh, “Woman in the Machine” will unfold through film, exhibitions, sound works, light installations, digital native events, a 360 virtual exhibition space, performances, talks and community engagement projects, created in response to Carlow’s landmark former Braun site.

“ONLINE EVENTS” On demand from 4th – 13th June
If your interest in Film includes subjects such as International Culture, Dance and more, you will certainly not be disappointed with the array of online events at this year’s Carlow Arts Festival.
“Drifting” tells the story of Cian and Pat, best friends who have been joined at the hip since they were kids and have the run of their small town in the midlands. The film takes place over 24 hours where Cian’s erratic behaviour pushes Pat to breaking point.
The film stars Emmy nominee Paul Mescal (Normal People), IFTA nominee Dafhyd Flynn (Michael Inside), IFTA nominee Lorcan Cranitch (The Dig), Simone Collins, Jarlath Tivnan and Oisin Robbins.
“Ruby” A short film about love, death and crap anniversary gifts.
This big-hearted short comedy film sees a retired couple celebrating their ruby wedding anniversary. Len has a long history of weird and wacky gift giving. His long suffering wife, Ruby, hopes that this year he’ll maybe do something ‘nice and normal’. What could possibly go wrong? Starring Kate O’Toole and Dan Gordon.
